B05: A frame analysis of German legal terms
Funding period: 01.07.2011 - 30.06.2015
The project aims at the application of frames to the semantic description of German legal terms, taken as a special case of highly complex institutional terms and concepts. It will be tested if frame-semantic methods are suitable to describe and analyze semantic and conceptual relations in the semantics of law more precisely than traditional methods. The high semantic complexity of law terms as well as the central role of action and event terms requires a specific design of the frame-semantic approach. The descriptions of representative German law concepts will include controversial definitions as well as diachronic change of meaning.
