Types of Events

Project Groups:

Project groups are the most common form of StuTS events. They offer 45-minute segments to hold presentations of 30 to 40 minutes each, concluded by a brief discussion.

Forum:

The forum will be concerned with a single main topic throughout the entire conference. For a kickoff, linguistic data and phenomena will be presented which will then be analyzed and discussed by all participants without any time limit.

New type of event: Forum

For this year's Students' Conference on Linguistics, we would like to establish a new kind of workshop in addition to the classic project groups: the Forum.

The Forum is meant to offer more space for discussions, critical feedback and scientific discourse than the project groups already do.

Consider this shortlist of features:

• Although every Forum will have a single host, each attendant is invited to participate

• With its duration of more than just a day, a Forum will offer deeper insights into the topic at hand

• We would wish for StuTS participants to actively come to grips with the topic discussed in the Forum - most ideally before the conference actually starts

Ein möglicher Ablauf eines Forums könnte so aussehen:

Am ersten Tagungstag (Donnerstag) wird vom Moderator ein linguistisches Phänomen mit entsprechenden Daten vorgestellt. Praktischerweise liefert er auch gleich noch eine Analyse des Phänomens mit.

Teilnehmer haben die Möglichkeit, über das OrgaTeam Sprachdaten bereits im Vorfeld online zu stellen, damit sich andere Interessierte mit ihnen vertraut machen können.

Es versteht sich von selbst, dass ein Forum keine geschlossene Veranstaltung ist; wie eine traditionelle AG steht es jedem Interessierten offen – auch wenn man zu dem Thema selbst vielleicht nicht so viel zu sagen hat.

Am dritten Tagungstag, dem Samstag, können dann die bereits vorgestellten Analysen ausführlich weiter besprochen werden. Idealerweise werden von anderen Tagungsteilnehmern alternative Analysen zur Diskussion gestellt. Die entsprechenden Daten werden noch während der StuTS und vielleicht auch schon davor online zugänglich sein.
